Fire Cracker, Fire Cracker, Boom! Boom! Boom! My favorite part of July 4th is the firework show. When I was a kid, we were able to produce our own show in our backyard. We had so much fun. Sadly, living in the city limits, in this day and age makes a firework display, off limits, unless you want to pay fines. I don’t want to pay fines and I hate the crowds at the local firework display, so I decided to create my own firework display on my front porch. I started the show with a Fire Cracker decoration.
How can you create your own Fire cracker to make a firework display for your porch? Start here!
As I was digging around on Pinterest and Etsy, I found these instructions on HomeTalk to create a fire cracker decoration. The decoration seemed easy enough to create, so I decided to give it a try.
To create your Fire Cracker and firework display, You will need:
- Fence post (round or square) 4 x 4
- Paint- acrylic or spray paint in red, white and blue
- Clear, high gloss paint to seal
- Drill with 1 inch bit
- Rope, wire, or star garland for wick
- Ribbon or raffia
- Glue gun
- Vinyl Stars, decorative cardstock, or washi tape to decorate
3 simple steps for Front Porch Fire Cracker Decorations
Step One- Sand and paint your firecrackers. Sanding will help to keep the splinters out of your hands, and help the paint go onto to the fencepost evenly.
Step Two- Decorate your fire cracker. I used my Cricut machine and cut foil vinyl. I also used ribbon, which you can purchase at any craft store.
Step Three- Add the wick. Before you can add the wick, you will need to drill a hole into the top center of the fence post. I then used rope from Home Depot to create a wick. I wrapped one end of the rope with electrical tape and then put a dab of hot glue in the hole I drilled in the fence post. I then used a star pick I purchased at Hobby Lobby and placed it through the center of the rope.
That’s it! Just 3 simple steps to start your own firework display, which will not cause you to pay any fines, unless your Homeowner’s Association does not agree with your display!
